Following the success of Degas, the collaboration between the City of Turin and the Musée d’Orsay and the editor Skira continues with a stunning exhibition dedicated to Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who - along with Manet, Monet, Degas, Pissarro, Sisley and Cézanne - is one of the leading names of the heyday of Impressionism. Sixty works of art covering the key moments of the artist’s development will be on show. At the GAM, the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, from 23rd October to 23rd February 2014.

The exhibition

The exhibition, designed by Sylvie Patry,is divided into: L’Età della Bohème (The Bohemian Age), which contains one of the first nudes, as well as portraits of friends; Des femmes passent dans les rues (Women on a street), a wonderful gallery of portraits of women, including Madame Darras, la Liseuse, Giovane donna con veletta (Young Woman with a Veil); La recherche heureuse du coté moderne, with the outstanding La balançoir (The Swing), Le métier de paysagiste, with ten paintings from the Musée d’Orsay’s magnificent collection of landscapes; Beau comme un tableau de Fleurs, with its paintings of flowers and the striking quality of their technique and colours; Le nu, forme indispensable de l’art, five canvases which form the basis of Renoir’s career; Eredità delle Bagnanti (The Bathers Inheritance), where Renoir’s most famous painting can be seen. The artist’s very own tools, his inseparable pallets, paints and brushes, will also be exhibited.
